Active travel

Active travel refers to modes of transport which also provide a form of physical activity or exercise, such as walking, cycling, skating or scootering.

Sustrans’ Hands Up Scotland Survey provides information on active travel by asking primary and secondary school children in Scotland the question “How do you normally travel to school?”. The results presented in this section compare active travel to school in Glasgow with 3 other Scottish cities and, separately, to the local authorities in the Glasgow and Clyde Valley area.
