Glasgow’s child population ranks in the middle compared to the other selected UK cities.  Birmingham’s child population of nearly 260,000 is substantially larger than the other UK cities compared, twice as large as the child populations of other cities, with the exception of Leeds.  The child population of all the selected cities has been rising in recent years.

In 2019, the proportion of children in Glasgow’s population was 16%, a figure which is lower than the other cities compared with the exception of Edinburgh.  Birmingham has a larger percentage of children than the other UK cities with almost one quarter of the population (23%) being children.
