Alcohol consumption in Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Of those who had had an alcoholic drink the past year, people in Greater Glasgow and Clyde drank an average 12 units of alcohol in the previous week – slightly lower than Scotland as a whole.

Almost a quarter of adults in Greater Glasgow and Clyde (24%) drank more than the recommended 14 units of alcohol per week – slightly lower than Scotland as a whole.

Men reported a higher weekly mean alcohol consumption than women across Scotland, with men reporting 16 units in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and women in the same area reporting 9.

Similarly, men were more likely than women to report drinking more than 14 units a week across Scotland, with 33% of men in Greater Glasgow and Clyde exceeding the recommendation, and 15% of women. 



These figures are from self-reported levels of alcohol consumption, which is known to be an underestimate of true alcohol consumption.
