Levels of overweight adults by Scottish health board

The measure of an adult being overweight presented is defined as individuals having a body mass index (BMI) of over 25 (measure includes those who are obese).

Almost two thirds of adults are overweight in Greater Glasgow and Clyde (62%), slightly lower than Scotland overall (65%). The proportions of adults who are overweight varied between health board areas.

In general, men are more likely to be overweight than women.

Just over a quarter of adults are obese in Greater Glasgow and Clyde (26%). This is lower than Scotland overall, and lower than Grampian and Tayside, but higher than Lothian.

In general more women tend to be obese than men and this is true in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Just under a quarter (24%) of adult men are obese in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, compared with just over a quarter of women (27%). This is lower than Scotland overall.
