Notes
These life expectancy estimates, produced by National Records of Scotland, compare life expectancy at birth in the 15% most deprived and 85% least deprived areas in each council area. The deprivation measures are based on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2009.
It is worth noting that a council's 'most deprived' data zones are not the same as the 15% most deprived nationally. Comparisons across councils are problematic and should be made cautiously, bearing in mind that the most and least deprived areas within each council do not represent the same absolute levels of deprivation.
Further details on this analysis, underlying assumptions and caveats can be accessed here.
In March 2016 the GCPH published Glasgow: health in a changing city, a report that examined life expectancy trends and inequalities in the city over the last two decades. The study also described changes in population, housing, environmental and socio-economic circumstances at a city and neighbourhood level.
