In 2009, the most numerous types of cultural institutions and organisations were performance organisations, libraries, visual arts, museums and venues. Between 1990 and 2009, most types of institution/organisation increased in number. The exceptions were multi-arts centres, libraries (both of which remained static in numbers over the period) and venues (which saw a small decrease in numbers).
