HM Inspectorate of Education

This website provides details of inspections in schools in Scotland. HM Inspectorate of Education is now part of the new national body, Education Scotland.

Scottish Government - Education and Lifelong Learning Research

The Scottish Government website provides information on research into education and lifelong learning (including schools).  Elsewhere on their website there are useful pages covering statistics on school education, including school details, attendance and exclusions, pupil attainment and destinations of school leavers.

Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework - The Framework

This website contains information on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework which details the different levels of qualifications available in Scotland.

Scottish Household Survey

A Scottish Government survey, the aims of which include informing policy on transport and social justice. In terms of education, the survey includes questions on qualifications attained and participation in adult education and training.

Scottish Government Statistics

This Scottish Government website provides a range of small area statistics including information on health, education, poverty, unemployment, housing, population, crime and social / community issues at different geographical levels from data zone to local authority.

Scottish Census Results OnLine (SCROL)

The SCROL  website was created to disseminate data from the 2001 Census.  It has a range of tables at different geographical levels that describe the population, health, economic and other social factors.  Education topics covered include summaries of student numbers, the economic status of students and highest educational qualifications within the population.

National Records of Scotland

From 1 April 2011, the General Register Office for Scotland (GRO(S)) merged with the National Archives of Scotland to become the National Records of Scotland (NRS). The GRO(S) website will remain active until it is replaced in due course by a new website for NRS. This website provides information about population and households in Scotland.
