In 2016/17, the rate of overall crime recorded in Glasgow (714 incidents per 10,000 population) was 62% higher than the Scottish average (442 incidents per 10,000 population) and higher than in the other council areas within the Glasgow and Clyde Valley region.  Glasgow's overall crime rate was more than three times higher than that for East Renfrewshire (230 incidents per 10,000 population).


Recorded crimes excludes miscellaneous offences and motor vehicle offences. Often crimes are not reported and so recorded crime numbers only provide a partial picture of true crime levels.
