In 2016/17, the rate of overall crime recorded in Glasgow (714 incidents per 10,000 population) was 62% higher than the Scottish average (442 incidents per 10,000 population) and higher than in Scotland's other large cities.


The number of recorded crimes excludes miscellaneous offences and motor vehicle offences. Often crimes are not reported and so recorded crime numbers only provide a partial picture of true crime levels.
