Male smoking in West Central Scotland compared to selected European post-industrial regions
Reported rates of smoking among adult males in West Central Scotland are similar to many post-industrial regions of Europe, and are very close to the levels found in North-Rhine Westphalia and Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Reported rates of smoking among adult females in West Central Scotland are high in a European context, especially when compared to Nord-Pas-de-Calais and the East German regions of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. However, they do not differ substantially from levels reported in Merseyside and Northern Ireland.

West Central Scotland (WCS) includes the following local authorities: Glasgow City, East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire.
95% confidence intervals have been used: in repeated samples, the proportions reported would lie between the upper and lower limits shown here 19 times of 20.
