The chart above shows a comparison of voter turnout at the Scottish Parliamentary elections of 2011 and 2016 in Scotland's largest four cities. Turnout rose in every city and across Scotland in 2016.
At both elections, Glasgow had the lowest turnout of the selected Scottish cities, while Edinburgh had the highest turnout of the selected cities. That said, turnout in Glasgow in 2016 was 6 percentage points higher than in 2011 and the gap in voter turnout between Glasgow and the other cities narrowed.
Notes
The percentage turnout figures for Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen were calculated as an average of the turnout in individual constituencies in these cities.
