Change in population of Glasgow's neighbourhoods in the period 2001-2021

In this period the population of many of Glasgow’s neighbourhoods increased substantially. In thirteen neighbourhoods the population increased by over 2,000 people. The largest increases in population were in City Centre & Merchant City (+7,800), Calton & Bridgeton (+6,480) and Yorkhill & Anderston (+6,400). In eighteen neighbourhoods the population reduced between 2001 and 2021, with the largest reduction of over 1,700 people in Springburn.

The neighbourhoods which had the largest proportional population rises were Yorkhill & Anderston (+78%), City Centre & Merchant City (+64%), South Nitshill & Darnley (+52%) and Calton & Bridgeton (+48%). In contrast, the neighbourhoods that endured the greatest proportional population losses were Sighthill, Roystonhill & Germiston (-19%), Crookston & South Cardonald (-11%), Springburn (-11%) and Easterhouse (-10%).
