In 2021, 97% of households in Glasgow had a bank or building society account. This was the same as the Scottish average, and higher than in Dundee (96%), although lower than in Aberdeen or Edinburgh (98%). There has been improvement in the rate of households with access to a bank or building society account in Glasgow over time, which was only 84% in 2009.

These data come from the Scottish Household Survey. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic meant a change in methods for the survey for 2020 and 2021. There are no estimates at local authority level for 2020 and the figures for 2021 are considered not comparable with previous years. More details on these changes can be found on the SHS site. This page was updated in June 2023 and will be updated when the next round of data is available.
